abstract = "The Amazonian region is currently characterized by tributary
drainage systems. However, a large distributary system has been
preliminarily detected in the between the Negro and Branco Rivers,
which suggests the existence of a megafan depositional system,
herein named Demini Megafan. Application remote sensing is
essential for characterization this type of landform. This work
aims to explore remote sensing products in order to characterize
the morphology of the Demini Megafan. The work was based on
Landsat-TM images and Digital Elevation Model derived from the
Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (DEM-SRTM), which was combined
with geological and floristic information derived from available
cartographic maps. DEM-SRTM was applied to provide hypsometric
analysis and highlight the topography applying a color palette,
procedures that helped to define the megafan morphology. This
morphology was additionally characterized using band 5 of
Landsat-TM images acquired from both dry and wet seasons
considering a set of dates. Principal component analysis (PCA)
applied to this products provided the flood variability. The
results of this analysis revealed a N-S trending triangular
morphology, with slope averaging 0,072°. This area displays
distributary drainage systems either abandoned or in process of
abandonment, which are in agreement with the presence of a megafan
system between the Negro and Branco rivers.",
